  • Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study fire risk management in enclosed shopping centres. Enclosed shopping centres are commercial buildings and as such are regulated as commercial buildings. Over the past decades, there have been a large number of enclosed shopping centres built across the world. In turn, there has been an increase in major fires and loss of life. Enclosed shopping centres areperceived to have lower fire risks than other commercial buildings in Australia. However, evidence has shown that this is not always the case, in particular, the fire in September 2006 at the Myer store in Hobart. The purpose of this research is to find out how the fire risks are managed and to provide a model to guide that management.
